Default My fuel falve was left on for 1hour...how bad is that??

Hey guys, I just washed my 97f3, ran it and left the gas valve open for at least an hour. Is that bad for the bike? I just bought it last night so I don't know if it has a pump or not either.......not sure how to tell?? please let me know. thanks,

Craig

They say you should turn it off, and I try to turn it off on my F2 all the time. But I just forget sometimes and it stays on overnight or something. Has never hurt anything, mine doesnt have a fuel pump tho....

I never turn mine off and it sits for long periods. Its a track bike only and a couple weeks is normal. The thing with carbs is the gas turns to vapor in the jets just sitting there. Which means over time the floats empty and leave a white power in the bowls. If you leave the fuel valve on. The fuel that turns to vapor is replaced by fuel from the gas tank. The little bit of negative pressure created in the float bowls is enough to draw fuel back in.

Leaving the tap on a couple hours / days / weeks / months won't hurt anything so long as she's ridden regularly. Its when you store the bike for a long period you want to turn the petcock off.

Gas won't flow into the engine with the bike off. Needs a vacuum or running pump to pull / push gas into the engine
