Default Major problem on race bike. Have to be sorted by Sunday!!

Hi guys, major help needed before season kicks off on sunday.

I have a 1998 CBR 600 FW

I have turned the road bike into a race bike for this season. I have fitted a race fairing which means that I have had to take all the dials and head light unit out and I am left with a load of wires.

I tried running it for the first time today and the bike runs ok at a standstill, its only when I get going a bit, it cuts out and dies on me.

Im told that the air intake system on the bike comes from a couple of pipes up to 12mph and then the main air feeder scoop kicks in over 12mph. Im wondering if somewhere in the wiring, the main air feed isnt kicking in, and the bike is being effectively starved of air over 12mph.

It could be a number of other things causing the problem but I just dont know where to start and my season starts on sunday so any help would be much appreciated!!

Wiring diagrams from anyone who has done this conversion before would be great!

Thanks, Jon.

Yes I think the ram air hoses have been removed during the conversion.

I built a street fighter out of an old CBR 600F1 that was crashed a few years back that I picked up for $300.00.

All of the front plastic was trashed so the plastic and the intake snorkels to the airbox and ran into performance problems at top end.

The bike would fall flat on it's face above 60mphs.

I ended up closing off the holes to the snorkel on the front of the air box and boring multiple 1 inch hole on the top of the airbox cover.

I then used a hunk of soft foam from a seat cushion and placed it in front of the airbox and under the tank to stop the forced air at speed from swirling in the airbox and this fixed my problem.

But the F3 is a little different than the F1, the F3 has 2 hoses on each side of the fairing that run to the carb for equalization of air/fuel pressure.

I would almost bet your going to need the OEM snorkel and the 2 equalizer hoses that ran to the front of the fairings in order to get the OEM carbs to work on your race bike at least for now untill someone comes up with a fix for removing these items.

Let us know how things worked out both on the fix and at the race!!!

Good Luck SIRR1

You can by pass the ram air hoses, for race purposes. Have you already done that?
