Light knock at idle

The manual I have for the F3 says 87 is fine. Running higher in a bike is also fine and is almost necessary when the RPMs pick up and the bike gets older. The compression ratio on the bike is high enough that I'm not sure how 87 is recommended, but as engines get wear, deposits build up on pistons and other stuff sometimes resulting in higher combustion ratios. In those cases, the high octane is needed, and may actually help scrub off crap because of additives and help new stuff from being formed.
Also, as you run higher RPMs, you may need a slightly higher octane because the low octane fuel will start to cause detonation. (a knocking sound)
