leaking fuel?!?!?!
So i was riding the bike home and it started to sound like it was starving for fuel, i had just filled up, anyways the bike dies, i put choke on and it starts up and i get her home. as i pull in the garage i notice the bike is leaking gas. I find the source and it seems to be a reserve line connected to an air hose.....it's not a line from the fuel pump, filter or tank. When i hold the reserve line so that gas can't leak, the bike dies. Anybody run into this problem before?!??!
nononono not from the fuel tank. Okay, i dont know what the hose is called, but if you take your tank off, the hoses that run the perimeter of the frame...they're air hoses, not fuel hoses, but the reserve line from one of the air filters is leaking fuel........yeah i understand how confusing this sounds, it didnt make any damn sense to me either.
so one of the hoses that are supposed to go up front...the ones with the little black filters on them are leaking fuel??
so ah...tell me the lucky number based on the pretty picture:

im guessing its the low MPH air vent...perhaps it is clogged. See if part 9,7,10,11,14,13,12..and it looks like 19 is a little piece of tubing as well...i havent been digging around in here for a while so i forgot..lol...
i can send you a part of the manual that deals with this...

the hose that's leaking is number 19. thanks a lot for the diagram. you're right from the diagram you posted it is the low MPH air vent. The real question now is why would fuel be working itself back into that air filter? the overflow hose implies that someone knew this could occur. What's strange is I dont understand how fuel could get all the way back there, how does the valves for the solenoid work? can fuel bypass the solenoid into that particular air filter? Because from what I'm looking at it looks like that's the only possible way fuel could get there. Wondering what the problem could be, i'll check all the air lines and fuel lines tomorrow to make sure none of them are clogged. Any other ideas?
im guessing one of the lines are clogged, and its creating a vacuum and sucking fuel out of the carbs. Then at speeds over 12 MPH, the solenoid clicks over and your fine...but check the hose that goes from the single side of the solenoid, and the air filters too..just to make sure they are not clogged..i really think you got somethin stuck in the lines...that would make sense to me. LMK how it turns out.
I agree with redz, check the filter and all the hoses on that intake. All those hoses are for the low speeds (12 mph or less) and air-vent silinoid switches over to the other intake when at faster speeds. I'm guessing you won't be able to notice, but does the bike leak fuel when above 12 mph versus when you're below 12 mhp?
So i took apart the hoses and these are the hoses that were filled with fuel. Hose number 2, 10, 9and filter number 7. None of the surrounding hoses were filled with fuel. After emptying the fuel from these hoses and filter the bike started back up and ran fine. It's a temporary fix to the problem. I checked all the air hoses and none of them are clogged. Any other ideas as to how this problem came up>?
