Default Idle???

The idle on my F3 isn't consistant. It revs between 1200 and 1600. It is contstantly jumping up and down. What could be causing this?

well...when was the last tune up? My first suspicion is carbs but it could be a few other things....

when I got my bike it was doing the same. I dumped some Seafoam into the tank and sprayed the carbs with carb cleaner and fixed it right up for the most part, then it varied by maybe +/- 100 rpm. Changed the spark plugs and now its more like +/- 50 rpm.

Seafoam is a god send! I just wish we could get it up here north of the border...I used up the last of what I brought back from my last trip south. Other thing it could be is leaky carb intakes. Spray some carb cleaner around the intake boots and see if it changes the idle at all...if it drops you have a leak.

If you haven't tuned up the bike in a while there is nothing wrong getiting it done. It would a good place to start. Maintenance is prevention.

It is also struggling to turn over the engine so I suspected the spark plugs needed to be changed. I didn't know if one of the spark plugs might not be firing good and it was causing the inconsistancy in the idle. I will try the seafoam and carb cleaner and keep you posted. Thanks!
