Default hey everyone.. help with headlight

I'm new here obviously, but i've been searching about the headlight problem i'm having on my 1996 bike.

The headlight was working when i got it, and i didn't do anything to it and then i noticed that sometimes the headlight would be on and then sometimes it wouldn't be. I checked for power at the fuse, i have it, and i don't have it to the connector for the bulb. I did notice that my "highbeam" icon is always lit even if the switch is in low beam. I haven't had any luck in getting the light to turn on lately, and it sucks because im afraid people aren't going to be able to see me.

Next issue, is sometimes, i can start the bike in neutral with the kickstand down, and other times it won't let me. And it will always shut off if i put the kick stand down even in neutral. I know it won't let you ride with it down but its annoying i can't let the bike warm up.

And last thing for now, my neutral light doesn't work but the bulb does.. i know i can check the switch which i do need to do, but im wondering if that has to do with the kick stand?

Actually last thing was this bike was laid down at 50 mph, so im restoring it. I have been riding it around naked for the past few days and no issues besides what im guessing is a loud cam chain tensioner.

Sounds to me like you need to overhaul the whole wiring harness, or at least the wires that are giving you problems. All of your issues are obviously electrical so download the repair manual if you haven't yet and get familiar with the wiring diagram.

well i went through all of it today at work.. found out the person before me decided to not plug in the bulb right.. don't ask me how but it was not on all the prongs so i got that fixed, along with new blinkers on it, tightened the chain, and i figured out my neutral light does in fact work.. when i wiggle the kick stand.. which im guessing is wiggling the wires on the sensor. i think i've gotten most of it straightened out
