Help!! Fuel Issues?????
Hi Guys , hope you can help me.
I took my 98 600 up to the track on friday and after a couple of sessions
the bike cut out and wouldn't start. It felt like fuel and when back in the pits eventually it started up again but after a while ticking over cut out.
A young chap came over and helped me take off the fuel pump and we put on his. the bike fired up ok and to double check we put the original on and at the time it seemed to be working ok. The problem persisted for the rest of the day. I even bypassed the relay to the pump but it always did
the same thing: Fired up run super smooth for a while on the stand idled for a bit then cut out. Back home i removed the fuel lines to check for micro filters and other obstructions but everything is clear. I've had the carbs off and they all look clear and clean. Previously the ike has been stood around for about 2 years in a garage but did get a carb clean and service before i took it out.
Any thoughts welcome!

when was the last time the carbs were cleaned? you can bypass the fuel pump altogether by running a gravity feed from the tank to the carbs. You can do this by sitting the tank up on a shelf somewhere just for test purposes in your garage and running a long fuel line from the petcock to your carbs, or... in some cases,... people run them on the track without a fuel pump at all (but i seen its mostly f2 guys, im sure some f3 guys are doing it though).

Connect a length of pipe from the petcock and hold the other end in a jar or something, suck on the vacuum pipe to open the valve and see if you've got a decent flow of petrol coming out of the tap. It could just be a blockage that needs clearing out.
An easy test that will diagnose the first first component in the fuel line.
If it's been stood around for two years then cleaning out the petcock/tank would certainly be high on my list of 'to do' operations.
Good luck.

Glad you cleaned the carbs before using them. That eliminates a lot. Those are classic fuel pump symptoms. Pull that black cap off the end of the fuel pump and check the contacts. If you had kept your friends on, you probably would have been fine. I suspect that you didn't make a test run with his on it did you ?
+1 on what Henrym said.
