Default Help diagnosing a hanging idle?

1995 F3, starts just fine when choked, runs awesome under all conditions, plenty of power in all gears through the whole power band under partial throttle and WOT. It DOESN'T hang while cold, but once it starts getting warm, when im coming to a stop the engine hangs or surges around 3k-4k rpms. The idle hanging will release it self back to 1500rpms (slowly, esp at operating temperature) if I give the throttle a good deliberate twist. When warm at idle it seems to want to hunt between 1400 and 2k which seems abnormal to me, but the high idle hanging is really a pain in the ***.

The CCT is at the end of its life for sure, but I cant imagine it causing an idle hang, the throttle cables probably need some lubing but again, that wouldn't only idle hang when warm. A friend thinks the vacuum slides are sticking in the carbs, but again, why would that only happen when warm? I'm a bit lost on this one

I'd start with that and also lube all external pivot points on the carbs. If it is still hanging after that someone can suggest other things to look at.

Also check to make sure all your vacumn hoses and boots are tight with no air leaks. Mine was doing something similar and ended up being the screw for the boot on carb four had backed out.

Lubing the throttle cables is kind of a no brainer I just havent gotten around to it, maybe i'll do it on this long weekend. My 1st thought was a vacuum leak but I was kind of stumped as to why a leak at the boot would only idle surge/hang when it was warm, I assumed that would happen both cold and hot but i'll check it none the less.

Also, how does everyones choke behave? My bike likes to start on full choke, but if I back the choke out more than maybe 1/3rd the engine drops to standard idle. Is that characteristic for this bike?
