Angry Headlight burnt out...

I need help... My headlight bulb burnt out last night after I started my bike. I was able to get a friend help me replace the bulb, and check the fuse, but no light. The bulb is good, and the fuses are good too. Everything works except my hi/lo beams. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Default It's Dark Out There!

Hmmm, it might be that your left handle bar control the high / low beam, turn signal and horn switch, well the quick connector under the fairing might have come disconnected.

Or you fried the wires in the left hand switch for the headlight by running a higher watt H4 bulb like a Xenon or hyperwhite type bulb .

Check the connection under the dash, I think it's a green plastic quick connector.

If thats not the problem you will need a multimeter and time to start tracking down wires from the handle bar switch to the headligh connection.

Good Luck!

Default I'm having problems with my headlight too.

When I bought this bike, I knew the low beam was not working. I had an R/R on order for an unrelated mechanical problem. My friend wanted to take it for a test drive at 1:00am. So we jumped it and he took off down the road, but then the headlight went completely out. Horns and turnsignals work fine. Headlight indicator on dash lights up. My friend assumed it was the R/R that was causing me to lose the headlight, but I've replaced that and the battery since then. I'm going to check the d/c in a few minutes and see what I can find.

so the bulb checks out when wired dierctly right? highs and lows? and if you put the bulb in to the bike and flip the high low switch to high does the dash indicator come on? i had this problem a while back and it turned out to be the solder connection in the right handlebar switch

SIRR1

The bulb that was in there was just a regular, plain old H4 and the wires looked fine. We did use the multi-meter and the fuse has power on both sides. I guess now it's just tracking down where the problem is.

Thanks for your help

Do you have power at the bulb socket connections?

When metering the headlight socket test both high and low using the ground on the socket.

If you don't find any power try testing the high and low leads using a ground somewhere on the frame or another green ground wire.

You might have a bad ground going to the bulb socket.

If you don't have any luck your going to need to test the switches on the handle bar.

Let us know when you figure out what the problem is!

This is a very common problem. If both High/Low don't work, then it's a good chance that the solder connection has broke loose in the "Right" handle bar "Starter Switch". This Black/Red wire is the one that comes from the 10A fuse. When the starter switch is not pressed, this wire is connected to the Blue/White wire (you can see it there in the photo) which goes over the Dimmer High/Low switch.
