Default Burnt Plastic

I went out for ride today, to tear up mu favorite patch of winding asphalt. I had a great ride, my bike ran perfect, and the power is so smooth I was leaning quite far over. To make a long story short I let my bike cool down and then went to wash it. Thats whan I notice the big burn spot on the left side bottom faring. It is right as the exaust makes turn under the bike. It totally sucked the fun out of my day. I am going to go to the dealer on monday and get them to fix it. Has anyone else had a problem like ths???

Nope I am running a straight stock exaust. I'm defiantely going to ask the to put more heat sheild in that area.

Ya I've noticed alittle discoloration on the N in Honda. I got some heat reflective tape at Pep Boys and lined that side of the lower fairing heavily. Did the repair yesterday I will keep an eye on it for awhile.

no problems with the stock exhaust, but after switching to the arata i had to cut part of the lower fairing to keep it from burning.

I have a black 06 all stock bike w/2300 miles.
YES!!! I have the “burn mark’ on both side of the lower fairing.
Good Luck with the dealer... It took three weeks of going back and forth with the service guy.
Finally, 3 other bikes came in with the same problem. 2 black models and 1 yellow/blue.
(1 black bike has the burn mark on both sides, 2 other bikes have the burn mark on the left side only)

The service guy has no idea why this is happen.... but all 4 bikes have stock exhaust system.
I am ordering a devil exhaust for my bike.

Good luck

Steele,

I got the same answer from the dealer here. He did sell me the repalcement panel at cost. I am going to write a letter to Honda and complain and see if I can get them to pay me back for the cost of the panel. When I put the new panel on I put Maier's heat shelid tape on both panels. Threee large sheets were enough to cover the bottom angle on both sides and go from front to back. I have two good rides on the bike now and it seems to be a bit cooler. I also put two washers on each of the shoulder bolts holding the panels in place and slotted the fron bolt holes to allow for the increased distance. If this dosen't solve the problem I am going to wrap the exaust pipe, however I think that will raise the temp of the muffler area. I also am considering cutting a slot in the black "v" plasic piece that sits just below the radiator. I think doing that will allow some fresh air directly at the exaust area, however I think that might sacrifice some airflow over the radiator. I'll keep you posted if I get anywhere with Honda.

Sigh!* (3600 miles on my bike, w/ a devil slip-on)
I am still burning my plastic. I used some 433 high temperature aluminum foil tape( from Cotronics Corp) to line the lower plastic.
The tape is working but the tape is getting too hot. The tape is now burning the plastic.
Then, I used a ceramic tile to block the heat and the cover a spot behind the "N" on Honda on the lower plastic. This is working great! but the adhesive I used is not rated high enough for heat. ( only to 250 F...sigh! the label said "high heat") I am ordered 2,350 F adhesive (p/n# resbond 907 GF) and I am going to wrapped the exhaust system with 2,300 F Ultra-Temp 300 ceramic tape.

OMG! It a new bike!

Yea, the dealer here in Canada replaced both my lowers under warranty.
In fact my fairings where shipped to Honda overseas because at that time I was the
first person that ever had that problem on their 1000rr 06.

If you take a look at your lowers you will see they are so flimsey that when you let
the bike sit after a hard run they tend to bend in towards the headers and start heating up.
Try touching them after you get back and you will feel how hot they are.

Anyways they should be replacing them at no cost. My dealer had no problems replacing them. Honda asked them
to put extra heat tape on my new fairings and the problems have not shown up since.

I have a 2006 1k and the lower plastics had burn marks on both sides. The dealer replaced them at no charge and supposedly placed the heat tape correctly. I have about 500 miles now and they are starting to burn again. The dealer is checking into it because they say I am the only one. Will update when they make a decision.
