Don't worry about the clutch, it will be just fine. You couldn't spin it enough to cause any damage at all. Putting it in 6th gear puts the greatest mechanical advantage of the engine against the sprocket. Putting the chain back on along with the rear wheel and sprocket will allow someone to hold the back brake. You'll be able to get the bolt loose then I'm sure.

 

Doyou leave your chain guard off all the time? I was thinking about scrapping mine, but I'm worried about that chain wizzing past my ankle. . .

 

If you mean the guard over the front sprocket, No. This is the first time i have ever taken this cover off.
If you mean the tire hugger and partial chain cover then yes i have removed that part. The chain does not come close to your foot unless your just flopping your foot around back there. Also if you have a nice set of riding boots there is even less to worry about.

 

Yeah, I'm talking about the tire hugger. I got boots, but I'd hate to ge a pant leg in there. Am I being paranoid?

 

I dont think you have anything to worry about, i have one pair of pants that i ride in that are baggy, and during normal riding they ride up anyways. Also it is just the chain in that area and there is nothing for your pant leg to bind up between.

 

The front sprocket cam off like a charm last night with just a ratchet.
Knowing that it was left hand threads helped out just a little bit, Only a little bit. haha

I was cranking on it the other day like WTF. Oh well i learned the hard way

 

Well, actually if you read my comments I'm saying that the bolt on the sprocket is NOT Left Handed. Most things have RIGHT Handed threads. That means that it turns Clockwise to tighten it. A LEFT handed thread would be CounterClockwise to tighten it. This would be used on a shaft that normally turns in a ClockWise direction. The Counter Sprocket on our bikes turns Counter Clockwise which would use a standard threaded bolt. The old addage "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosy" holds true here. To get the sprocket bolt off, you should be turning it Counter Clockwise.

Oh well, as long as you got if off. Post some photos of the teeth on that sprocket. Nice clear ones would be great.

 

you prolly shouldnt keep bath rags on ur bike, u never kno when they might fall off and get sucked into the chain, at least ure bike is registered unlike mine!!
