FUUUUUUUUUU!!! Dropped the Joe
I'm so mad.
I was headed in to work this morning. It's foggy so I'm keeping it slow. I approach the turn that my work is on and as I slow down and start to lean, there is sand strewn across the lane. I saw it as I was leaning so i tried to reduce the lean angle but the front tire didn't comply. The bike slipped and I tumbled. I'm fine, the gear did it's job. Jacket is dirty, helmet and gloves are unscathed. The extent of my injuries are a scuffed knee (equal to rug burn) and a tiny hole in my favorite jeans. Oh, and my pride. I fractured my pride in three different spots. It'll mend, but damn.
The SE lost some skin. The maintenance cover broke, the side fairing (that I just replaced!!) is scuffed. The mirror shattered. The tail fairings are toast, but then there was a lot of glue holding them together anyway.
I picked the bike up, rolled it to the side and got it started. Took all of 30 seconds to start up. Drove it the whole 1/4 mile to work and inspected it a little closer. All damage appears superficial. Guess I'll be buying one of those Hong Kong kits...
Damn.

Sorry to hear about the mishap. Glad you were not really hurt! It sounds like you did everything right....but sometimes we go down anyway. It is a shame that your bike is going to need a whole "chinese" kit to fix. Good luck with the repairs. Hope everything works out well in the end.
Thanks. After the initial anger wore off, the bike isn't nearly as bad as I made it out to be in my head. It's scuffed, the tail needs some love, mirror is gone and the break pedal is jacked. But in the end, it's laughable and I'll get over it.
A couple days have passed, and I've decided to look at this as an opportunity to do the bike the way I want. I can't drift from the SJ theme, so I've ordered the HK ABS fairings. I'll wrestle with them until they fit. I've come to terms with the issues that may arise. They should be here mid April. I've order black integrated mirrors and plan to put the flush mounts on running light duty for a tiny bit more visibility. I've got ordered spools and grips, both in purple, with new bar ends. I'll plan on getting frame sliders when the fairings are in.
The rims. I'm considering pulling the paint from the lip and polishing while leaving the center purple/yellow. It's easy to do on the ninja, I hope it's equally easy to do on the CBR. But then, dare I disturb the sanctity of the SJ with polished lips??
I'll replace the exhaust. The yoshi can is scraped and ugly and the midpipe is rusted. Any suggestions? I like the sound of the yoshi and don't want to get annoyingly loud. Doesn't make it fun on long trips.
My brake pedal is sort of pointing in the wrong direction now.. Where in the hell does one find a brake pedal? I've seen only a couple from used F3s and alllllll are as rusted as mine (but not nearly as bent).
F4i...sure wish I could find a gauge cluster...somewhere...anywhere...even ebay....
