a good working fuel pump, should it pulse the gas throught the fuel filter, or should it be a steady pull? i changed my fuel filter and when down there i noticed the pump was pulsing, you could feel it if you touched it.

It will pulse,then vibrate like a cellphone when almost empty.When it's primed,it won't make a sound.

The F3 needs a little help with fuel flow, but not much, maybe 4 psi. This is due to the ram air.

F2s are gravity fed.My F3 was, until I started doing long pulls in top gear and it would shut off.In went the fule pump, and away went the problem and away I went to my first win of the season.

All the CBR600s have pumps.
That's not true, I know for a fact the f2's don't. They are gravity fed. As someone else said, the addition of ram air made the pumps necessary for the F3. All 1995 and newer CBR's have fuel pumps.

To answer the original question, I presume that some fuel would be able to pass through the pump even if it wasn't working, but I am sure as soon as you gave it any kind of throttle the engine would starve of fuel and possibly even shut down. I guarantee if your bike is running well and you have the pump installed, your fuel pump is working fine. but as someone else said, the F3 would run fine without a pump (gravity fed) untill you achieve high speeds and the ram air is pushing in a large amount of air, that the pump needs to match with enough fuel.

Ok, so I'm wrong, F1s and F3s do, F2s don't. Weird.

And believe me, if you're riding along and the fuel cut-off relay relay or pump fails the engine will falter and then stop, just like you've run out of fuel. Trust me, I've done it!
