Default F3 rattle/banging help?

Hi all.I picked up a 98 F3 on Tuesday. I was hoping for some advice from you guys and gals.

I started hearing a rattling sound at around 2500 revs. It's since changed to a clunking/banking sound. Any ideas?

The MOT which was done the same day as I bought it showed slightly loose drive chain and slightly worn rear drive sprockets as advisories. Could this be the cause?

Thanks again.

were is the noise coming from?

put bike on stand and stand to the left then stand to the right
you then need to move your ear slightly behind the head and slightly infront

here the deal if it the the left of the motor its to do with starter/charging system

if its to the right its cam chain tensioner

if its both it could be either or exhaust valves

if its to the right and quieter behind the head but louder infront i would say exhaust valves if not i would say cam chain tensioner.

its hard to explain but anything over 25k generally get a new cam chain and tensioner for safety reasons

Cheers. It was the drive chain. Had a look at it in the light of day, chain was really loose, I've tightened it up and I've got a new one and new sprockets on order.

There is a sound similar to what others have described on other threads from the right, I think it's the CCT. The bikes done 24000 and still running the original so may need swapping out too. What's the best one to go for? OEM, APE?

Thanks again

I did an ape, installation is nice and easy, I have not however changed the cam chain. Jackojeff, I'm assuming my cam chain is stock, 35k miles, should I be replacing it?

Go with A.P.E, those stock tensioners are absolute rubbish.

up to you, i had stock tensioner and stock chain until 45k when i put an ape on and all was fine until i de-commissioned the motor as it was burning oil and had a wrecked gearbox

might be worth it just to be on the safe side
