engine rattling noise
I have engine noise on the top right side of my engine (brake lever side). It sounds like something is clanking around and I wonder if its the valves or timing chain tensioner etc. I was told by another mechanic that it was a timing chain tensioner but he didnt actually hear it himself.

Im having the same issues out of my 96. I ordered an APE cam chain tensioner, and it should be here within the week. I also wondered if the valves needed to be adjusted, I read up a little bit on the valves, and it seems like its going to be a pain in the *** because I will probably have to wait on shims after I find out the values needed.
I was debating on ordering the EBAY shim kit, but wasnt sure if I should put my valves in EBAYs hands.

A rattling noise coming from the engine can be any number of things, including your tensioner. I'd advise you to take off the fairings and just take it for a spin to your local mc repair shop, they are usually able to tell you whats wrong just by listening.

I'd be willing to bet it's your CCT. I put the APE Manual CCT on my bike and it's was so much quieter! It was like a completely different bike. The OEM CCT's always fail. It's two bolts to take out the old one. And a simple adjusting to put on the new one. Quick and easy.
