Maybe because i had a similar problem. When you pull the clutch, the cable pulls an arm with a spring, the springlever turns a rod which pushes a large pin inside of the clutch cover. When i was playing with it this system got a little fubar, and it took a few minutes to figure out how to put it back in right play with the arm and make sure the pin is moving out ward, you'll have to push it back in by hand as the clutch is the return pressure for it in the engine.

It sounds like the clutch arm is not alligned right.

Did you ingage the clutch arm on to the push rod when installing the side cover?

If you did not you will have no clutch.

When installing the right side cover or clutch cover you have to move the clutch arm back and then forward as the cover seats into place.

Or you did not install the clutch push rod, either way the side cover needs to come off again!

First, replace your clutch cable.

If that doesn't work then I bet I know the problem. When I replaced mine, it did the same thing except my cable was fine.

Turns out there is an alignment notch on the clutch basket, it needs to be alligned with the clutch housing notch. It's in your manual, but it's easy to overlook.

If you have used the alignment marks and I'm only telling you what you already know then ignore me...

A frayed cable will most definitely feel like the clutch is jacked.
