clutch cable issue

Default clutch cable issue

i recently changed my disc and plates on my clutch on my 98 and its runnin fine but for some reason the clutch is grabbin really low. the lever is almost completely let go until it grabs but it does and changes gears correctly. how would i be able to tweek the cable to engage quicker??? thanks

You need to adjust the cable. Set the adjuster screw up by the lever to where it is about 1/2" turned out from fully turned in (about 1/2" of the threads showing). Then look down by the clutch cover and you should see a bracket where the clutch cable is attached to with a nut on either side of the bracket. Loosen these nuts and tighten the one that is to the front of the bracket until your clutch lever has the correct freeplay (the amount of movement before you feel resistance). You want about 3-5 mm of freeplay between the clutch lever and the perch that its mounted to. Basically if you can fit a nickel into the space between the lever & perch, it's good. Then tighten the lock nut on the adjustment screw and the two nuts at the bracket on the clutch cover.

I like mine to grab lower. As long as it is fully engaging it won't hurt anything but you don't have to pull it as farto shift.
