Default Charging Problems

I had a regulator/rectifier put on a while back in Oct. It charged fine for a while but it started to quit charging over time and it got worse. Now the bike wont charge at all. Do the reg/rec go bad over time and gradually get worse or do they just stop working one day? I dont know what else could be wrong. Thanks.

With the reg, it gets worse, as it degrades (although some carp it straight off).
Eventually it will fail altogether, get it seen to.

k, i just got in from messing with it and it says that the battery is getting 14.?? volts while the bike is running. That is where its supposed to be right? So with that figuerd out, could anything be wrong in the charging system? I mean, its getting the required volts to charge. so why wont it charge the battery? Could the battery be at fault? It is kinda old. And its maintenance free so i cant check for water or do anything to it. What do you all suppose?

You can get a false read with a Reg failing, wot happens is they get hot (overheat) & then start to fail. Take your bike for a quick squirt around the block, & then do the testing.
