charging issue, maybe

Ok so i got another new r/r installed, i moved the mouting point to under the battery tray to hopefully get more airflow from the rear wheel, i also wired in a voltage guage and switch so i can turn on the guage while riding and see the r/r voltage. Now i have another issue, bike fires up fine, 15v from the r/r as expected but the tach doesnt work. I did replace the headlight since the overvolt blew it out but i dont see how that could mess with the tach, is there a connection or sensor somewhere i should be checking?

What a disaster, turns out my failed r/r blew out my air solenoid valve to switch from low speed to high speed intake, removed and bypassed the valve and shes running good now, no issues so far, moral of the story is if you smell rotten eggs, stop riding it. Thanks for your help, ill throw up a picture of my remounted r/r and guage later in case anyone is interested

Wow that sounds horrible man. I've been having issues as well with my R/R. I'm on my third one, I replaced the stator with the first one this spring. The middle yellow wire on the plug has been burned to a crisp three times now. I go through all the troubleshooting with the multimeter and everything checks out and points to the R/R. First 2 times I bought cheap ones off of amazon and then ebay. The current one is honda OEM. I'm hoping they were just cheap, or ill have to go the GSX-r route that you did.

Been going fine now for a few weeks, the gsxr r/r is definately the way to go if you have a bad r/r, i replaced my bad one with an ebay one with a big heatsink on it, it was the one that fried everything, replaced with the same kind and it failed again, the wiring was a really high gauge and i dont think it was up to the task, the wires burned after day one, the gxsr is much lower gauge and is noticably less hot, oh and to all those who are replacing theirs, lose the plug and direct wire it, the plug has too much resistance and gets far too hot

UPDATE : Honda OEM R/R is still going strong. Been riding the hell out of it. New chain, and rear tire though. But just goes to show you dont have to go the gixxer route if you just buy the OEM part. The plug is fine too, so you dont have to solder either. I mean you can if you want, just not necessary. At least for my bike.
