Default Chain & Sprockets

I was wondering what are the signs to change the chain and sprocket? On my dirt bike you can see the sprocket teeth getting thinner and the saddle wearing. I usually change it at a certain point, does this theory still hold true?

the sprockets will get sharp at the top of the teeth and the chain will start binding real bad when it gets worn.

binding= tight spots in the chain when the the wheel is rotating and could cause the bike to be jerky

Do you guys change them as sets or as the wear? How tight do you keep your chains?

Are you guys experiencing posting problems?https://cbrforum.com/m_620275/tm.htm

I generally run 2 sets of sprockets to 1 chain. Have not had any problems with this method. I must point out that I am running with a 520 conversion and aluminum rear sprocket. I usually run either D.I.D. or EK chains and vortexor afam sprockets.

Thanks for the replies!!! I usually run D.I.D or Sidewinder chains/sprockets!! They seem to last longer (sidewinder). What size rear sprocket are you running ifyou don't mind me asking?

The teeth on the sprocket will look just like shark teeth, the rear will wear out faster then the front.
i had ran a vortex aluminum 520 rear sprocketand they suck i ran it for about 5000mi and all the teeth were almost gone. there probably good for just racing not daily drivring. so now i just put a Stealth sprocket which is aluminum in middle and has steel teeth on the outside.my buddy had one and recommended its been running good the weight is right around in between both steel and alum. w/ a 520 rk xso chain.

rider0033, what did that do for ya? I'm actually looking to possibly go bigger in the rear. Prefer to have acceleration over top end!!

shoemjay, thanks!!

I see a lot of guys change the sprockets in the front and rear. What kind of performance did you guys gain by going up in the back and down in the front? I would prefer a little more acceleration.
