Default chain slack issues

I started do ing a little spring time maintenace before the riding season starts, and i noticed my chain seem loose. I seem to remember that the F3 chain tension is supposed to be 5/8"-1" of slack. this is measured in between the front and rear sprocket, while pushing up and down on the chain, and taking the overall measurment. Is this correct? that is what i set my chain for while it sits on the side stand, but it just seems to look tight. what do you guys run for slack on your F3

thanks!!

You'll just want to measure, from the center of the two sprockets. You should have about 1" of travel up and down - overall. That means roughly 1/2" up, and 1/2" down.

Also, keep in mind, this is a measurement with your weight on the bike. It's easier to have a buddy help you, but honestly...

Just get it around there, maybe about 1.25" of slack overall, that way you'll be fine when you get on the bike. Anymore, I don't even measure it, I just tighten it till it feels good. You'll get the hang of it.

Good luck, and uh...

What do you mean, "before the riding season?" Have you guys stopped riding?!?!?

Also, make sure that you check the slack at the tightest part of the chain. Put the bike on the swingarm stand and rotate the tire to find the tightest part of the chain.

i know on the f4i the recommended slack is 1-1 3/8". i'd run at least that. err on the side of looseness. a looser chain is a happier chain.

The F4i isn't the same bike, has a completely different swingarm and suspension. It's recommended setting is what it is for a reason...

As is the F3's. The recommended slack on an F3 is 1" or <1". A loose chain promotes accelerated chain and sprocket wear. Use the measurements given in your specific manual.

Should I spec my chain according to the 954RR manual? Nope.
