Default Chain Lube

Hey Guys,

I've been lubricating my chain w/ SAE 90 gear oil every 500 miles like the manual states. My problem w/ this is that it flings oil all over my bike and rims for the next 150-200 miles. The gear oil works great but its a pain cleaning up the oil that flings onto the rims.

I clean my chain before putting new gear oil on and wipe off the excess before I ride again. Wiping off the excess gear oil helped the last time but still makes a mess on my bike.

I was wondering if the spray on lube is better and if so what brand or is the mess that gear oil makes is just something I have to live w/.

Thx
Moses

Pretty much any motorcycle chain lube is better than gear oil. Just make sure you read the can and find if it slings or not. I'd say just go to your local bike dealer and pick up some. I think Chain Wax is widely used.. http://www.amazon.com/EA-MAX-CHAIN-WAX-OZ/dp/B000VJM1HA

but yeah, that gear oil is nasty stuff and most of it will end up slinging off the chain.

Give this stuff a try. I've been using the original for a few years now.

If you just wanna go to store and buy it advanced auto parts has spray chain lube, and so does auto zone. It's better than throwing gear oil on, I mean it slings a little but nothing that bad

why about spray on white lithium grease. since its internally lubed....the whole principle is to just keep metal not rusty and o-rings not cracked and dry am i correct? they pack them in it when new so im guessing thats a good idea????
