CCT problems 900
OK I have a 97 900rr. I try posting there but there is not a whole lot of people on that so I figured I would try here. I got the manual CCT and was trying to install it this past weekend with some other work. I was trying to follow the instructions on the back that said remove the valve cover and push the chain, but that doesn't work. After looking I found a write up on cbrworld of how to do it, and it just basically said by sound. So I put it back together to do it that way and now I can;t get it to start. I cleaned the carbs and changed the sprockets and chain and that is the other work I done. But when I had the valve cover off I turned the motor like the instructions said. Is it possible that caused it not to start? Or is it maybe just cause the carbs are dry? It sounds like it is really trying to start it just won't. But i'm waiting on the battery charge now before I try again. It is the APE manual CCT.
First off, I don't know anything about the 900 so this is just speculation on my part. If you replaced the CCT and currently there is a lot of slack in the cam chain because you haven't done any adjusting on it yet, then that slack could cause enough change in valve timing that you're not going to be able to get it to start. Is there currently any slack in the cam chain at all ? If you take the right inspection cover off and turn the crankshaft small amounts either CW or CCW, do the cam sprockets turn immediately, or do they hesitate a little before starting to move? If they hesitate, then there is slack and that may be your problem.
