bike running rich and im a newB

My bike smells like its running rich and like the title says im a newB so i have no clue how to correct this prob??? Do i need a tune up or my carbs cleaned or what? And if i do need my carbs cleans should i jus jet them while im at it???
So confused and my head is starting to hurt lol

+1. Page 5-3 of your servcie manual pretty much lays it out.
Here are some things the manual doesn't get into:
Smelling gas in yoru exhaust may not necessarily mean you have a rich misture; it could also mean it's just not all being combusted. run your bike for about 10 minutes, and feel your manifold pipes (CAREFUL: THEY ARE HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!). If one of them is noticably cooler, then that cylinder isn't firing properly. Gas is being fed into it, but something is wrong with the combustion process. We'll get into that if need be.
Anyhoo, Check your air intake system first and foremost. Put a K&N filter in there if you don't have one already. If you do have one, clean it. Is you're choke all the way up? It should be. Barring that, how old are your plugs? Can you post pictures of the tips? Label them so you know which one came from which cylinder.
