Default Battery acting up

To start I have a 96 f3, and an 8000K HID (unsure if this will be relevant)
My battery died a few times this year, leaving me stranded on multiple occasions. So I replaced it.. all seemed well, however twice now. I will ride for like 30 minutes or so, then stop and when i go to start my bike, it is as if my battery is dead. Luckily I have been with a riding buddy both time, so he push started me.

When I returned or got where I was going (another 30 minutes or more), and shut my bike off. Then hit the start button and it fired right up no problem. Leave it sit for a while, starts right up.

It is extremely strange as this only happens once in a while and not everytime.

Any thoughts?

Check your rectifier and stator. The rectifiers on F3 are a weak point. On my blackbird the stator was acting up. It has 3 phases and 1 was working off and on. Changed it out, no problems now. It also has a HID kit installed.

Thanks for the quick response. How exactly would I ensure that is what needs to be replaced before actually replacing it?

When you describe that it acts like it's dead, do you mean it will turn over very slowly like a weak battery ? Or you hit the starter button, and your headlight turns off, but the bike doesn't even try, like totally dead ?

2 things I'd check.
  1. Have the battery load checked at an auto parts store to make sure it doesn't have a bad cell or something similar.
  2. Put a meter on the battery while it's running. You should get 13v to 15.5v @ 5,000 rpm.
  3. Clean the battery terminals with a wire brush.
(ok 3 things)

The battery is only a few months old, but I have put it on a meter and the last time I checked it was fine. Me and my bike are 100 miles apart as I am at school.. But when I am home over break I will check it again
