Default Bad rectifier or Battery?

I am having problems with charging my battery and having it hold charge. So, I guess that means my battery is bad. I bought the bike last year and the previous owner had put a new battery in it. He did however mention that the rectifier on the bike might be bad because if I leave the bike sitting around for a week the batttery loses charge.

How long do bike battries last and is my problem just the battery or both the battery and the rectifier and where can I get a new version of the rectifier. I have a 98 F3.

More then likely the rectifier. Unplug the pigtail from it and look for melting, corrosion, burnt wires. Battery should definately still be good.

Make sure you check the terminals on your plug to the reg/rectifier. I went threw 3 batteries until I got my head together and decided to unplug that rectifier to see what the heck was up. and one of my yellow wires had some crap in the plug, and I just cleaned it up and she's golden now.
