Default 97 cbr f3?

I have a chance to buy a 97 cbr 600 with 15k miles. It looks like a good bike. I need to know if there are any inheirent problems with this bike big or small. Is there anything i should look for before i buy it? Is maintainance easy? How long do the tires usually last? Is this bike reliable? Can i get some links for aftermarket parts? Thanks

i see that this is your 1st post so for starters Welcome problems with the f3's....none ! haha nah they have there issues just like any other bike. if normal maintenace wasnt taken care of your bike may have more problems then others. usually problems on the f3 are limited and far between. but watch out for thr REG/REC going bad. but like i said before if the normal wear and tear wasnt taken care of you will have to replace it sooner then you would expect. check condition of chain/sprockets, forks (are they straight) fork seals, hows the frame? clean salvage title? look @ the undertail and see if there is alot of burnout marks (sometimes a good indicator of how someone treats their bike) ... but basically just check everything out (if youre not mechanically inclined with bikes take someone who is). good luck and when you get your bike we expect tons of photos ! also how much are you getting it for ?

also get familiar with the search tool, many questions that you have probably have already been answered before. i know its a pain in the *** sometimes to find what your lookin for but it is a good resource.

Welcome and safe riding!

On this forum you're probably not going to hear too many complaints about the F3. 15K miles is pretty low for an eleven-year-old bike. You can do a search of the forum for what kind of maintenance you will have to do as you start adding on the miles, and also what to look for when inspecting a used bike. There are a lot of F3s out on the road, so there is a good market for aftermarket and used parts, as well as OEM.

Hey, From what I know is there should be no problems enless they didn't do their normal maintence. I bought a 1995 CBR 600 F3 last summer with 10k miles for $1k. Yeah I know a steal, I got it from my boss, he didn't want it anymore because he had two kids. I am putting it in the shop for a total make over of a new paint job and also every thing going carbon fiber. Can't wait to get it back in two weeks So yes there are plenty of aftermarket parts for that bike. good luck and have fun.

Well i am mechanically inclined. This guy is asking $4k but i think i can talk him down a bit. It has been repainted and has a slip on. new tires and has been lowered for his wife that used to ride it.Everything looked ok but i reallywant to go over the bike really well.Id like to buy it but i have only bought new before and my main con to buying used is i dont know how it was treated.

$4000 is AT LEAST $1000 more than the bike is worth. You could get an F4i (lighter, faster, fuel-injected) for that kind of money. You should offer 25 and be willing to go to 28, and have him remove the lowering links, since lowering a bike messes up its handling and cornering clearance.

its a honda. it will run forever. i was just talking to a friend about his VFR that he put 90,000 miles on and it still ran great. the only thing that all Honda bikes seem to be known for is, as someone already stated, the regulator/rectifier going bad. but this is such a common issue that you will be able to get one quickly and replace it yourself with no trouble, if it goes bad. But 4k is way too much for that bike, even if it was in perfect shape. either talk him down or buy something newer. but you can't go wrong, mechanically, with a Honda.

$4K is too much. I paid $3200.00 for my 97' F3 back in 11/2005 with 17K miles. It was mint with full 2-brothers carbon fiber exhaust, Stage II DynoJet kit, and more.
