Not having an F3 as yet, so dont rely on this.

Sorry just realised that my reply doesnt help at all.

I think you're right in your thinking.....I dont think the subframe differs much.

I "think" it does differ although maybe not much. I bought a mudguard/number plate holder from a 96 and it didn't quite fit my 97. Some fittings didn't seem to line up. But ........ my bike has been messed around quite a bit so maybe on stock bikes it would fit.

In order to go from 96-97 you are going to need the above mentioned parts as well as the tail light bracket for the 97 in order for things to go together correctly

No, the 97 tail light wont fit the 96 bracket, found this out myself when i fitted a complete 97 fairing to my old steelie.

As has been said you will need the tail light, bracket, rear side and centre tail fairing, the grab handle if you are intending on fitting one and the seat.

OrangeF3s right you will need the bracket. It relocates the tail light to sit higher in the new tail and relocates two of the rubber grommets that the plastic pins in the tail snap into. You can however use the 96 seat with the new tail it just does not cover two small spots and fits tight.

You can but it looks horrendous, i found all that out when i bought 97/98 fairings for my 95/96 bike.

You should be able to pick up a cheap secondhand seat on ebay, they usually come up quite a bit.
