96 f3 bogging down on highway

When I'm in town, going stoplight to stoplight, my bike seems to do just fine. but when I get onto a highway for 5-10 min it starts to bog down. (it's bad enough that I have to fight it to keep it at 65 mph) the exhaust sounds a little louder, which leads me to believe that it is running lean. I've replaced my Fuel Pump/Filter, and it still has the same problem.
I know that this is my first post, but I plan on contributing to the forum as much as I can in the future. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

There a few things that can cause a bike to run rough at the speeds your talking about.
Some are more serious than others, but I think you may need an old fashioned tune of the carbies. Plugs/coils can also cause similar issues. Have you taken the plugs out to see wot condition their in? Their colour is a good indicator of fuel/engine issues. (also a good indicator of bad plugs). In line Fuel filter is another one that can cause problems.

I haven't pulled the plugs yet, no. the previous owner said he replaced them right before he sold it, but we all know how reliable information from the seller is. I was planning on tearing into the bike again next weekend, and I'll take a look.
what exactly does "tuning the carbs" entail? I'm mechanically inclined, just never played with them much.
oh.. and when you say "in line fuel filter" isn't that the one that sits between the tank and the fuel pump? if so, then I've replaced it.
and just to make sure, the best way to test coil packs is to pull a plug, connect it to the plug wire, and see if there's a spark when you turn the bike over, right? at least that's how I checked it on my car.

Id check to see if ur jets are clogged....also u can try to sync the carbs and clean them up really good......and the fuel filter that ur talking about is the stock one i hope.....i believe pacamaker is talking about an aftermarket little inline fuel filter....and yes def check ur plugs....it might help to check ur ignition coils aswell...but it sounds like u have a fuel problem
