Santa was good to me, brought me all sorts of new toys. New front forks installed, now working on the brakes. Rear caliper was clean, fronts are a disaster, doesn't appear that the fluid was ever changed. Looking for a way to clean off the pistons, will buy new ones if I have to. New seals on order, hope to get brakes buttoned up this coming weekend... Took it for it's first ride, a bit sketchy with only rear brakes, but everything works
@chobes How about a brass wire brush or wheel on a grinder?
I ended up going a similar route... Started with fine steel wool, went to medium, ended up jamming a socket into a rubber hose, put that into the piston, and spun them with a drill. Used 2000/2500 sandpaper and good to go...
Took it for a little longer cruise today, everything apparently works. Need to get it registered, new tires, and then put some miles on to see if there are any other gremlins... Doesn't look like much next to it's younger sibling...
I did not expect the pistons to come out so nicely.
It is a very common problem on a lot of bikes that brakefluid changes are rare.
If you have an integral braking system it is even worse.
When one buys a bike one should assume that engine oil, coolant, and brakefluid needs changing.
Even when delivered by a dealer.
This is the first thing I do when buying any vehicle.
It also was very necessary en every vehicle I bought. Also the vehicles my family bought.
Brakes especially always s*ck.

Maybe it's a bad angle. There should be one of those crush washers on each side of that Banjo. Can only see one of them. Caliper parts look great. Nice job.

It's just the angle, crush washers on both sides of the banjo bolt. First time rebuilding calipers, not that difficult as long as you're patient.
Next up is figuring out why the temp gauge goes to 1/2 way as soon as I turn the key on, faulty temp sensor perhaps?
*Edit* Thermo-valve has been removed, will this impact temp gauge reading?
