33bhp Restriction Kit
My wife has got a full UK licence but with a 2 year restriction to 33bhp.
As she wont stand for riding a 125cc or similar round, she decided to buy a CBR600 (good woman that she is!). As I have a CBR1000 its a good match and she loves the bikes.
Anyway, in the UK she has to have her bike restricted for 2 years to 33bhp due to passing her test on a 125cc. Now, I am aware that Honda sell a restriction kit for £100, and FI International sell one for £150. I would buy the Honda one but it doesnt come with a certificate. Legally you dont need a certificate but the insurance company demand on if there is a crash, and you cannot get it done retrospectively.
So, I could buy the Honda one and try and make up a certificate but I dont want to do that. On the other hand I dont want to spend £150 on a kit with a certificate.
Both aren't cheap when you consider they are only 4 washers!!!
If anyone is selling a kit please get in touch, or if anyone has any ideas (sensible ones only) I would be most grateful.
Cheers!

Good points. Problem is if you use without restrictor fitted and do get caught, you're in very deep mire as you are effectively riding without a licence or insurance and it simply aint worth the risk these days. Maybe 50 years ago a local policeman would have given a stern warning with a sly wink and waved you on. These days you just cant take the risk.
Getting one fitted without the certificate would mean you would still have a receipt, but the insurance company would argue that their policy stipulates that they must have a certificate of restriction.
I am half getting round this by now contacting a motorbike performance company who have a dyno testing centre and getting them to fit the cheaper restrictor kit and then dyno test the bike. However the dyno test is £40 so I may as well get the £150 kit!!! Aggghhh! All it consists of is 4 washers and a certificate! What madness!

you do need to coner your **** where insurance is concerned, as they will try to screw you over any way they can, I would say get the £150 and save yourself some trouble, pain in the **** I know but in a couple of years you can sell it on ebay and get some £ back
that has to be the dumbest rule i've heard of. 33hp for 2 years? maybe 6 months is reasonable! i guess you could get a scooter when you are 16 and say thats your "motorcycle" that way when you can afford one you can get a nice one and not have to worry about this!
I've just removed the washers from a bike, and they're for sale if you want them . No certificate though.
Although I'd have thought that in the event of an accident, as long as the bike is actually restricted, and you have a receipt from the garage that fitted it stating that they fitted a restrictor kit to your bike (reg no etc) the insurance company would be happy.
