I'm about to go through with this myself tomorrow, but what I would do is verify that the gear set is in the neutral position, that the shift drum is in the neutral position and all the forks are correctly aligned.

 

Does it only "free-wheel" in first gear, or does it do the same in 2nd or 3rd too?

 

same in all gears

 

Were your shifting forks markings facing the right side of engine when you installed them.

 

Could be your return spring. Does the shifting lever return to its proper place after you release

 

when we have time....will remove everything again and make sure everything is in proper alignment. Thanks for the suggestions yall.

I don't think its the shift forks they are installed the way the service manual says. I don't think it started free wheeling until I stuck the clutch cover on. The bike shifts thru all the gears but seems like the clutch leaver"hand control" is pulled in the whole time even though its not. Also I noticed that you cannot start the bike in first gear with the stand up and the clutch in. The fricktion plates, plates, and springs are new but when I re-attached the clutch cable it is tenssioned all the way to the end like I need to replace it would think I would have had to loosen it more not tighen it.

 

done problem has been solved. Drained the oil and took the clutch cover off and removed the clutch. Took it all the way apart and put the clutch back together and everything worked. Thanks for the help guys
