Default 1998 CBR 600 SE Carb Questions

Repost: for some reason the first post ended up in the for sale section?

This is my first post on the forum! After researching my issues on the forums and other places, I've decided that my float needles are clogged up on my 98 cbr 600 se. The bike will run with a miss (not getting fuel to all cylinders) when the choke is fully opened, however when you close the choke she will die. I can ride the bike like this, however it is a pain in the butt.... I don't have any issues at higher RPM's or getting her to WOT-
The bike is an origonal 1998 Smokin Joe Edition with 4100 miles on it, and it sat for over6 years. I evcuated the fuel system added fresh gas with sea foam and ran her for a few hours with little improvment. There wasn't much varnishing from the old fuel because the origonal owner added sta-bil to the gas before stored .
My question is: knowing that the float needles are causing the problem, what is the least involved way to fix this issue? I've heard some folks say that you don't need to pull the carbs, and some say you do. I would prefer not to if I didnt have to... Also on the 98 600 f3's what process needs to be followed to get to the carbs? I've ordered a service manual, but it wont be here for 7-10 days. What all needs to come off, etc.... Anything I need to pay special attention to, etc?

Thanks in advance fellas-

Eb

You have to remove a lot of stuff. You have to take off the tank, air cleaner, velocity stacks, and hoses. You'll have to at least take off the access panels, tail fairings, and lower fairings. Getting to the boots on the carbs is kinda hard but it can be done. Once you have the carbs out, working on them is easy.

You know, if you're lazy like I was, you could simply get away with pull the rear tail, seat, tank and unbolting the carbs leaving the airbox on and you can get to the float bowls. It's awkward, and you'll have to pull a few hoses, but it can be done.

Your life would be much easier to unscrew four screws and pull a few carb. coolant lines and get them out of there...anyways, There is a good carb cleaning post in the How-to section. I would skip everything except cleaning the float valve, and the idle jet. Leave the top end of the carb alone, it sounds like its fine.I have made a post on the bottom of the first page on how to clean the idle jets. When i got my bike it did the same exact thing, and it was that jet. The problem is the holes in it are so small, they get filled with junk really easily. This is why it will not idle, but you can rev it up. The main jets are fine, and im pretty sure the float valves are fine as well.

You can download a service manual for free at www.stephygee.com, at the bottom left corner of the page. Any more questions just ask, im floating around these forums on a daily basis.
