My F2 (with 90,000kms) will power wheelie (no clutch) no problem. No gearing change either... Just tug on the bars and lean back.

This threads heading way offcourse.

Leaning back in first with the throttle full bore, my front end will lift with ease but its not something I want to do.

My much loved F2 is in its later days and Im not going to abuse it with wheelies or any similar stunt.

I started this thread as I was concerned about the whining from the gearbox, not if the bike would wheelie.

Default fireblade rrw gearbox whine

i've got a 1998 rrw blade and i have the same problem as yours and i have my engine out at this moment to replace the bearings and the collers on the gears as they seem to have a bit of free play on them , i've had this problem before on a different bike , just got the problem of finding the parts cheap enuogh , as to wheelies damaging the gear box it shouldnt damage the gears as all the oil goes to the back of the engine casing , the bearings do get damaged though , if it gets worse i would get it replaced before it fails , mine used to whine a little then it got louder and started to get hard to engage from 1st to 2nd .hope this helps if you need any more info let me know or pictures of the inside of the gear box and i will email you some or try and p[ost some

the bearings can fail and lock up the whole gearbox or the bearing can fail and drop the gears causeing a lot of damage , i would get it checked out to be safe mine started with a little whine then it got worse. i've stripped my gear box and the main bearing is spinning rough and the gear collors are under there service limit couple of the gears have a bit a free play , might as well replace them while i have gear box apart.

I have just bought me a 02 F Sport with 20k miles on it. My gearbox whines in most gears but mostly when I am winding the throttle wide open. After checking the manual I can see the gearbox is a straight cut setup. I was assuming this whine noise was normal as per the straight cut whine. At high revs my bike sounds like it has a blower on it!

Should this gearbox be quiet and not whine at all?

Funny, i have the exact same noice

My CBR however makes the noice in 1st, 5th and 6th gear. I think the noice in 1st gear is very typical for all motorcykles. I hear that noice almost every time i se a motorcykel in first gear. Its almost like a car in Reverse.
Nervertheless my bike makes the same whine/turbine noice in low RPM in 5th and 6th gear. Really odd!
Can anyone confirm that this is not an issue to worry about?

Steew

Btw. My CBR is from 1991 - 30.000Miles (50.000KM)

My 06 F4i gets whiney around 8k-9k. It has 3k miles on it. Guess its more noticeable for me since I have the stock can

you sir, are incorrect. if you stab it @ 7k in 2nd, it will come up all day, assuming you know what the hell you are doing. as well as with a little light revving before clutch release in 1st, it comes up mad easy.
