Default Whiney Gearbox

Nothing wrong as such I just want to see if anyones got a similar setup.

My '91 F2 has covered 40k miles.

Now first, second and sixth have a whine to them. First and second are the loudest whiners with sixth having a low whine. I quite like the whine as it lets me know which gear im in if I forget.

One other thing is shifting between gears sounds like someone bursting a loud paper bag. If Im giving it full bore switching between 1st to 2nd requires a fair haul up on the lever as it often just lands in neutral if I dont.

Anyone else got a similar setup?

I checked the engine oil, it was replaced before I bought it as its still a clear colour, no visable particals either. Mind you saying that, the old oil might of been loaded with particles but Ill never know.

my bike is exactly the same, especially the part about hitting neutral if you don't kick up into second really hard

Same here. If i coast in first you can here it like crazy. I heard the first to second problem is from people popping wheelies. I'm going to be getting the pro shift kit to try to ease that issue, i just hope it works.

mine also has 40k, its not too noisey but you have to be firm when shifting to 2nd. my understanding is the issue with the wheelies is changing gears with the front end way up the oil is moved leaving the gears unprotected when shifting. a friend of mine has a smokin joes F3 that 2nd is torn out from doing wheelies

Cheers for the replies. Its good to hear its common and nothing to worry about.

I never knew wheelies could cause that kind of the damage. Is it from primarily shifting from 1st to 2nd while up thats doing the damage?

Im keen to learn how to wheelie but so far ive never felt the need to shift to 2nd once up.

my f2 doesnt have the horsepower to do a power up wheelie, so I leave the fun to my dirt bike

Default Power wheelie

A honda F2 will not wheelie of the throttle unless you change the gearing. It will wheelie if you give it revs & clutch but ido not like treating my bikes this way & the last time i did it i smashed my bollox on the tank..
