So I picked up another F2, this time though it's for my girlfriend. She's new to riding so she won't be on it for a decent length of time, which is fine as this bike needs some TLC. She'll be on a GS450E I'm about to finish up, and when she's ready she'll jumped on this bike with it toned down a lot (+1 up front, -2 in the rear should do it).

This is a 1994 F2, and I'm fairly positive the regulator rectifier has gone out on it. It's been down at least twice, as all the plastics were replaced with cheap chineese plastics, and then there's evidence it went down lightly again. There are also various other aftermarket parts throughout suggesting notable replacement at some point. The bikes milage is also highly suspect. It claims to have 78K miles, yet till has the stock R/R and CCT. I'm betting the gauges were destroyed in whatever first wreck resulted in having to replace all the plastics, and these were pulled off some other bike.

Anyways, I got the owner down to a damn low price and took it home. The bike is dead and "needs a new stator" but of course the RR is far more suspect, especially with it still being OEM. Bike turned over briefly and tried to run but the batteries voltage is wayyyy too low. No CCT noise however. The bike ran a smidge the day prior for my girlfriend, which is surprising as it had sat for some time.


So yep, two F2's now. Mine being the red one, hers being the black one


EDIT: I own more than two bikes, I just have two F2's in the garage. This now makes six in my garage!

and now this bike, although I don't own it. It's my girlfriends, although it'll probably live at my garage for the next few months. It's a 1994 CBR600F2.

 

damn.. you like projects or just the lok of older bikes?.. do you plan on getting something newer?

 

They're mostly projects

The WR400 isn't that much of a project, but maintaining a frequently used dirtbike is a project in itself.

My CBR600F2 isn't a project, and it's mostly pegged out. Once I swap out all the crazy track gear from the new 94 F2 over mine (my girlfriend will NOT be using most of it) It'll be overhauled.

The 93 DR350 is a project bike, and it's purpose is to get people out dirtbiking. I had an 82 XR250 in "good" running order, but it used so much old technology it was a heap to use. Plus cable operated rear brakes are friggen retarded.

The 88 Hurricane is a project/fiasco. I bought it for cheap, and by the time I'm done I could have bought an F2 and been happier. Oh well, it's been a good learning experience. There isn't a part of that bike I haven't touched...

The 83 GS450e I bought for $35 from a friends towing yard. I took it as a challenge that I couldn't get it running as no one wanted it and believed it was dead. It runs, and it runs good!

 

thats dope.. i wanna have 2 bikes but i dont see a way to keep my f2 and get a newer one without going banrupt on insurance or going deep into debt to get a new one.. so i think im a one bike man for awhile but thats dope..

 

Having seen a few of my friends overextend themselves to purchase a bike, only to wad it up and not be able to ride, I don't see much point in getting the latest and great bikes until it's well within your means.

Hence I got a bunch of affordable bikes I can beat up instead of one wicked expensive bike I'm afraid to use.

 

haha very true lol .. haha but i dont want that new of a bike just an f4i or early rr.. all of them are the same since like 04 anyways..

 

New tires for the best, although I'm awaiting fork stands to do the front as well. After these tires, new chain and sprockets, RR, CCT, and some other random basic stuff (grips, oil, etc)... oh and frame sliders since she's bound to drop it a few times.

So yep, it's on it's way!

 

how does a set of gauges survive to 78k miles

i thought it was a miracle my bike has 47k and (had) a clean title.

I honestly believe most bikes do not make it past 20k.
