Question Starter clunk!?

Hi all, I'm new to the posting but not new to the info. That being said I'm hoping someone has more knowledge than I do. My issue is a clunk I had within 2 sec of turning over. Everything stopped... motor and starter. Then after a little freak out I thought I'd try to start it thinking the damage has been done if its valves. I thought I broke a cam chain or something like that. Well nothing happened other thatn the lights dimming when you try to start it. I put it in 6th and pushed/pulled to see if the motor would move. When it did move I tried to start it again. Started like a champ like normal. So, I'm betting on starting system. Does anyone have any idea what part of the system would cause this. It has happened more that once with the 6th gear trick fixing it again. The manual troubleshooting didn't help much. Thank in advance.

It sounds like the pinion gear on the starter is binding with the ring gear, pull the starter out and check the teeth on the pinion gear.

I'll give that a look when I can dig into it Thurs. If it is binding would a quick fix be to get a new/newish starter or would it be more complicated than that. Thanks
