speedo acting weird

hi
my speedo is playing up at the moment it works for a while then just stops i have ordered a new cable and i fitted it but still doing the same any ideas?

my bike did the same thing, I think there is a gear in the gauge that can get stripped, so my speed always bounces from 0-35 mph

yeah, i always thought mine bounced from the hole in the glass, when i hit 60 it bounces like an equalizer.
