Default Signs of a bad petcock.

I have a issue with my 93 not idling without the choke off. Troubleshooting the petcock with the fuel shut-off in the on and reserve position, I read in a manual that I should have a steady steam of fuel.
Need less to say, nothing comes out. Is this part bad?

Thanks

Shouldn't be a steady flow of gas unless the motor is running, you need vacuum to open the diaphragm inside the petcock.

Is it not flowing when the bike is running? I don't think you specified that

I dont know how to check it when the bike is running. The troubleshoot info is from the Clymer repair/service manual. It stated disconnecting the fuel line from the carb's into a glass jar and their should be a steady stream of fuel in the on and res. position. I did this with the vacuum line disconnected. I'll reconnect it and try it again.

I'll also state this while I'm at it. The carbs were cleaned and jetted last year from the bike sitting up a couple of years. So when I recieved the bike back it ran great, but around 12k it would start to misfire/sputter. My bike was always kept in a controlled environment. I didn't ride for a month or two prior to storage, is when it began the idling issues. Also the plugs are new and tank filled with new gas. So I'm assuming possible clogged fuel filter, line's or the petcock. Oh! I remember prior to service the fuel shut-off *** was hard as crap to turn in the different positions, hope this helps.

Thanks for the responds.

unplug the vacuum and fuel line from the carbs. turn petcock down to on. suck on the vacuum line. fuel should come out.

try messing with the idle screw while the choke is on, then slowly take off the choke while still screwing the idle screw until it gets to the perfect idle.

with the side fairings off and plenty of rags in place leave the vacuum line on the #1 cylinder and turn the gas on and crank the bike over a few times with the main fuel line off of the petcock note if and how the gas flows.there is a rubber plunger within the petcock that can get stuck or obstructed if your fuel doesnt flow right take the petcock off and inspect it.
