Default Rectifiers, what others fit than Oem.

I watched on a long ride my friends bike came to the electrical screaming halt of his rectifier dying. All he had to replace was the rectifier. But the Gremlins were relentless till it died.

But my question is and think I have seen this on here, that there is a direct drop-in rectifiers other than F2-F3 OEM for say Gsxr or R1 that are better quality than what we have? I just want not to chop or cut/drill if I ever have to replace mine.

I used a gsxr one, I want to say around 01-03, but I'm not positive. I'm sure someone else will come along and clarify. Much bigger/better heat sinks, and all the wires spliced right up.

I was going for one that didn't need to be spliced but a direct fit.

Damn, I was hoping for something cheaper, I just can't remember what R/R just dropped in that was bigger than our OEM.

It is true, that the part listing for OEM replacement of the unit, uses a different part number than the original, and I've heard that it is an improved unit, but I cannot personally attest to this, as my original part is still running fine, with 20K on the clock.
There are also a few aftermarket units, that are direct bolt-ons (allegedly), that have obviously better heatsinks:

Regulator Rectifier CBR600 F2 Honda sh693-12

CBR 900 RR*Rectifier Voltage Regulator

That is most likely correct. Honda redesigned/modified R/R's for a few models. The new redesigned R/R's supersede old models & should be the only ones avail by factory Honda for replacement. As an F4 owner, I had to replace my old style R/R a few years ago. The old part had been superseded by a new model that was finned for cooling & is a much better unit than the orig oem flat unit. I commute, ride wknd twisties, & ridden track in the desert on 107 degree days (Willow Springs) w/ the new R/R & its been great.

Ya, I have been looking around and quite a few sound better with better capacity than OEM. I looked on Bikebandit.com and they wanted $170 for Oem. Street Bike Warehouse has them for $65 with 2 year warranty. I hope this helps someone out in the future. It is painful watching a rectifier die at 60MPH.

Here is yet another link I found in my favorites - I think this might be the cheapest of the aftermarket "heavy duty" bolt-on options...

Honda CBR600 Esport Regulator Rectifier - Super Duty - ESR587 by Electro Sport

I replaced mine with one from a stock 07-08 Yamaha R1. You pull the spade connectors out of the honda plug on the bike and put the three yellow wires on any of the three grouped tabs, and the other two go to positive and negative per the wiring diagram: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4135/...674f7186_b.jpg
Works great so far and about $70 used with low miles on FleaBay.
