Default Rear Tire Question

I am about to go buy a new tire for the rear of my 1994 CBR and was wondering if anybody new if I could put a different size then 170/60/17. I really wanted to know if I could put a wider tire then 170 on it? Thanks for the help.

THe 94 F2 has a 160/60-17 rear tire stock size...the 170 is the biggest tire that can be installed and still be within the clearance limits and design of the rear wheel. The 180 is designed for a 5.5" rear rim, the F2 has a 4.5" rear rim and the F3 has a 5" rear rim..so do not put a 180 on a rim designed for a 160

Default RE: Rear Tire Question

When i first bought the F2 I had, they had put a 180/55 on it. The tire looked plain stupid on the back. Once you try to fit it on that 4.5 inch rim, it folds up to about the same width as the 160 it called for. And to make matters worse, no grip in the turns. If you ever used that last inch of tread on the 180, it was right before your shoulder hit the ground on the way down. My advice, don't do it. The rim on a 1994 is only 4.5 inches wide........use the 160. You'd be suprised that the 160 is about as wide as a 170 or a 180 once they are put on a rim that narrow.
