I got a used set of front brake (m/c, lines, calipers) from a fellow CBR rider.
I just put them on my bike and is about to put new brake fluid in it as the set is empty.
I have done some bleeding and flushing myself before but never have put brake fluid into a new set that was empty of any fluids.
What is the process of filling brake fluid into a new set of front brake?

 

Do you have a vacuum pump? It will make life a little easier. Basically what you need to do is turn the handlebars so that the master-cylinder is level. Fill the reservior & if you have a vacuum pump hook it to the bleeder valve of one of the calipers. Pump it a few times & open the valve. If you dont have a pump just suck on the hose till fluid starts to come out. Be carefull not to get that stuff on any of the fairings or paint. Once you have fluid coming out the bleeder valve just start to bleed them the conventional way.

What do you mean by "suck on the hose"?

 

If you dont have a vacuum pump, put your mouth on the hose & suck on it like a straw. Use some clear hose so you can see the fluid coming out. Makes it easier to see when you get all the air bubbles out as well. Dont get that stuff in your mouth or you will taste it forever. Be sure to use DOT4.

Have you looked into rebuilding the calipes & master-cylinder?

 

Suck it with my mouth? This is not my girl friend! Well, I guess I will have to do it that way since I don't have a pump.
Once this works, I'm gonna look for a caliper rebuilding kit. Do you know any good one?

 

leave the sucking for the bedroom
1. fill reservoir with fluid
2. Place wrench on bleeder screw
3. Place hose on end of bleeder screw
4. place hose in bottle with 40 ml of brake fluid in it
5. have friend pull in brake lever
6. open bleeder screw
7. several second later, close bleeder screw
8. have friend let off brake lever
9. repeat until brake lever is firm to liking
10. may be necessary to fill up reservoir occasionally.

Just make sure you keep the hose submerged in brake fluid so air cannot travel back into the braking system. This eliminates the need for the vacuum pump.

I bled successfully and now the front brakes works.
When I squeeze the lever, the tip of the lever still touches the throttle, with pressure though. Is this normal?

 

No one know how much I should be able to squeeze the front brake lever?

 

I don't think it should be that mushy. The lever should NOT hit the grip.

 

too mushy dude. You bled both sides of the the front brakes right? Keep bleeding with the method I showed you. Keep that tube submerged in the brake fluid, you will get it . . .
