Put money into my F2, or buy a new bike?

Hey guys.
I drive a 1991 600F2 that i bought for 2gs. I bough it for a cheap bike that i wouldn't feel bad knocking over or whatever else may happen during the motorcycle learning curve.
and... I am effing so in love with it.
The bike has fairly aged fairings and 74,000KM.(high mileage i know but runs like a top)
Ive been considering buying new fairings and rebuilding/replacing the motor over the next 2 years, however I am afraid of other difficulties i may have with an old bike.
Just looking for some feed back as to whether you guys think it would be worth it to try and prolong my baby's life or just buy a newer cbr worth what I am willing to invest.
I know obviously the deciding factor is up to me but just looking for some input/insight.
cheers

One thing you didn't mention is how much experience you have riding on newer model bikes? Have you tried them and like the riding position, handling and power? Making the choice between bikes will be easier the more experience you have to draw on.
As far as whether it's worth it to put money into an older bike - it's all about preference - an F2 that has been properly cared for, will last you a VERY LONG TIME - these things are bulletproof, with proper care.
Though my bike looks pretty nice, and has lots of go fast goodies (you can see it in the thread in my sig
), I have still only spent far less than 1/2 the price of a new bike, but I have spent a lot on it, because I love my F2 - I very much DO KNOW it's performance limitations, which is why I have a brand new R1 as well!
Bear in mind, though, bike's "performance limitations" are relative to the RIDER - like Optimus Prime said, we don't know what your experience with bikes is - at this place in time, the F2 may be too much for you to handle at it's maximum, for all we know, which would mean a more powerful, much quicker revving new bike would not be necessary, maybe even for a couple of years.
Time and experience definitely influences your decisions, and if you are brand new to riding sportbikes, or bikes at all, that might not even make sense to you just yet.

Upgrade for the features, technology, HP....if you have a bond with current bike...keep it. It's not like you can sell for alot more...
I also own an older model 94'....never cross my mine of selling it...because we won't get money for it...I do however want a second bike sometimes....newer model.

I personally liked my f2 a 100x more than my 08600rr.
however i got fed up with wrenching on it rather than riding, its overheating issue, and carbs. (doesnt help when someone steals it thrashes it in a wash and you spend months parking it on the weekends to wrench)
better torque curve, better ergonomics, oh no only 7 less horse power than a new bike cause it revs 2k lower, and better torque? say what? no clackity tick whiney engine i hear echoing off curbs and bridges. I like banana seats...
on the track it would get horribly raped, and it had to work to go above 130, it took some effort to turn. but it had something the my new bike just doesnt... it will also keep up with any sane sport bike rider on the street.
if its clean and you trust your life to it, replace OEM rectifier if you havent, upgrade the front forks, check valves, and ride it. mine had over 50k miles on it when i threw it under a guard rail.
whatever you invest in 'upgrades' on a newer bike you wont get back.
if i could get a new f2 with fuel injection and an aluminum frame id trade the RR in a heart beat.
the rr is just a tool i thrash. the f2 was my baby.
have $10k+ and priced insurance yet?

I'm glad tucsondude mentioned that, because I was going to, in my post, and forgot by the time I finished typing all my crap! FOR SURE, the F2 is waaaay cheaper to insure. I've got full coverage on my R1, but even if I had liability only, it would be $165 more a year, than the F2!
my 0 mile 08 i bought in december costs me 150 a month to insure, a new 11/12 would cost 250/mo to insure<--full coverage.
just basic uninsured and underinsured was 170 for the year wiht the f2, the rr was around 220 i think.
ah 23 and arizona FTL.
