Default Project: Wrecked 1993 F2 Update

Well, I'm almost finished with my project...it was alot quicker than I though. The bike was wrecked in the front right corner. The front 3 fairings were in about 12 pieces. Temporarily I have JB welded them together. It looks decent from 15' away...get close and all the imperfections stand out. I'm on the prowl for replacement pieces. I started it up yesterday and it purrs like a kitten!! What a great feeling of accomplishment!

The radiator was busted, the instrument cluster was busted, the windshield was busted, the whole right handlebar setup was busted. Throttle cable needed replacing. I had to patch a hole in the gas tank (JB Weld again!) It was a very tiny hole. You can kind of see it in one of the pictures.

I got all my parts from GF Performance in Salisbury, NC. www.gfperformance.com He works on bikes and also strips them down and sells the parts. He has very good prices.

Anyway...my question is, will these cracked and repaired fairings pass Va Inspection? Everything works on the bike. I have all the fairings attached. Most have scratches of some sort, but it doesn't look horrible. Attached are my pictures. When my windshield arrives next week, I'll take a picture with all fairings attached.

Just thought I'd share my F2 rebuild with everyone. All in all, a VERY easy bike to work on.

Looks just like my bike. I'm just surious, did your fairings get busted up when you wrecked and you took them off or did the little engine vent panel fly into the wind and allow wind to rip the plastic back?

the JB weld wont hold that hole in the gastank for long. trust me.. i know.. I had a pinhole leak and put some JB weld on it and it worked for a while then started leaking again. The JB weld on the plastic might not hold for long either; the vibrations from the bike will weaken it over time.

edit: also, you should be able to pass VA inspection no problem as long as all your lights work and your tires aren't bald. :-)

I bought the bike from a guy who laid it down in a parking lot and it hit the curb. The front 3 fairings were in pieces.

I read alot of places that said they used JB weld on gas tanks and it worked fine. I'll make sure I keep a sharp eye on it in case it leaks again. Maybe i'll get some 5 min jb weld too in case it leaks when I'm out.

The jb weld on the fairings is only until I can find some in good condition. There's one nice upper side on ebay but it's f'ing $250!!! It's not on the side fairings that I welded (the softer plastic), it's just on the 3 piece front. I think I'm going to throw a layer of fiberglass on the back of them too, just to add some extra support. The worst part about these fairings is that the part going up to the mirror mounts are all broken. That's the most ghetto looking part of it all.

Thanks for the input on the inspection. I hope the tire has enough tread on it!!

As long as you have good tread, lights work, horn works, have mirrors, and have plenty of brake pad left then your good. I didn't have any of my body pieces on but my one piece upper.

you'll need the left side mirror to pass va inspection. (or is it the right...)

I ordered some new mirrors the other day. Should be here soon.

You have the stock 3 piece fairing all intact? I've been searching high and low for that. My middle piece is ok, the the other 2 uppers are shot. How much do you want for it all? Do you have any pictures? Where are you located? This excites me!!! I thought it would be forever before I found one in decent condition.
