Default Petcock

I just found out that my F2 has an F3 Petcock? What would be a reason that someone would do that. When I bought the bike, the owner told me I had to turn the fuel off when ever I stop the bike. Any specific reason I have to do that. Not used to these older model bikes.

The f2 petcock was vaccuum operated. Bike not running = petcock off. The f3 had a fuel pump so if the bike was off so was the pump. F3 petcock on the F2 = no fuel pump and no vaccuum so its gravity fed so in order to keep the fuel from flowing into the carbs just in case your carb floats are over whelmed from the gravity of a full tank the petcock needs to be shut off when the bike is shut off so the fuel will stop from flowing into the carbs and into the cylinders and flooding it out. Something like that.

So turning off the fuel is good. Check. I appreciate the awesome knowledge, it really helps. Thanks

I know this thread is kinda old,
but I have an F2, and I can have the petcock opened, and no gas will go through unless I start the bike.

Does that mean I do not need to turn it off when I park the bike, even overnight or for a few days?

the f2 one is vacuum operated. it needs vacuum from a running engine to flow. you dont need to turn it off, but its not a bad idea to if its going to sit for awhile. a little extra safety never hurts.
