Yes - down is On, level is off, up is reserve.
every time I've run my bike out and switched to reserve, I've topped off with 3.6-3.8 gallons of gas on top of whatever was left on reserve, which I think is supposed to be .2 gallon.
I've run 160 miles on one ride, with some semi hard pushing through twisties and a a few jaunts into triple digits, that was from topped off to the engine cutting out as I coasted up to the pump, without switching on reserve.

i used to leave mine on reserve. It just seems like you need to refuel more bcuz your bike is tellin you to refuel before the other guys bcuz you have your gas in the "ON" position. I used to ride 140 miles with the gap being included in the trip all the time when i live in maryville next to the tail of the dragon. The F2 tank is fine.
Now you could need a carb sync so it runs properly.
Do like some other guy said and lean the bike up if you want more gas in it
