empty the tank of the crappy gas that has been sitting in there and trying to clean out the tank as much as possible. Probably a lot of rust deposits so make buy a new fuel filter for the petcock.

Main things you should do in order of importance:

clean carbs,
sync carbs,
change oil,
change spark plugs,
change air filter
adjust chain for proper tension,
clean chain,
lube chain,

sitting for 4 years, I would pass it by. What if it has stuck rings, what if the motor is seized, what if the entire combustion chamber and cylinder wall are rusted up bad, what if he is lying and the motor is completely blown. I paid $600 for a running bike, keep looking dude

I would keep looking. If its not running i woudnt pay 1200 for it. Your goin to have to put alot more time and money into it. I paid 1500 for my 93 600 but it was in pretty good condition. Only needed body work and rear master cylinder.

If your near louisiana there is a f2 for 800 bucks in my area. Im in shreveport. here is the link.

Good luck!

I paid 1500 for my F2 and rode it 50+ miles home. If you cant hear it run or ride it home no way its worth even 1000 bucks, no matter condition or miles. If you can get it for 5 or 6 hundred thatd be about right. Remember its not on you that it wnt start or run its on them, if they wnt live with that chanced are they are tryng to get over on you. Tellem you'll pay 1200 if you can ride it or hear it run.

Paid $500 for my 95 F3 cause the PO couldn't start it. Guessing the truck shaking around knocked a few bits of varnish loose cause she started when I got er home.

Tell him $500 since he can't get it started and you'll have to go out of pocket to tow it home. If the fairings are in good condition, go as high as $750 (cause you might end up parting it out)
