It makes a sound like a bunch of marbles rattling around in a tin can.

It's the cam chain slapping around on the right side of the bike (riders POV)

Buy the APE manual camchain tensioner for $50, almost all of the stock CCT's go bad. You will also need to replace the gasket if you dont have the steel gasket, your Honda dealer will have this part if streetandcomp.com doesn't.

I'm almost certain this is your problem.

There is a thread on this forum the describes in detail how to replace the CCT and adjust it. (It's very simple, takes about 20 minutes if you're good)

 

you may even want to through some seafoam into your oil right before your next oil change. Some say its bad for a wet clutch and can cause slipping but i have been doing it for years and never had a problem. i just run it for five minutes to clear out some passages and get some gunk outta there then change the oil...good to go

 

i have a problem similar to this. i just got the bike and right before i put it away for this winter i changed the oil. i started it up and the oil light was on and the bike was making a ratteling noise so i turned it off. i started it back up and the oil light was still on the ratteling was still their. then all of a sudden the light went off and the nose stoped at the same time. it has never sounded like that until i changed my oil but it stopped after a few seconds and both the light and noise went away.

could this be because of a bad CCT? the bike has 32K on it but i have no idea if its the stock or if its been changed? i will just buy one if that could be my problem

im really low on budget, like down to 100 dollars, is it critical for me to get a new cct?

Well if your CCT goes on you the chain skips the sprocket screwing up the timing possibly making you need to buy a new motor, but it all depends if its your CCT. Most of the time though its when you start it up from cold it sounds like crap because the chain is slop because the oil needs to go through the engine because it is a hydralic CCT while the aftermarket ones are manual.

Different bike, same concept... Less steps though as it's more accessible on the F2.

Just read through it and get the basic idea, once you get your fairings off and see where it is it's very simple.

2 Bolts to remove it, scrape off the gasket, put new gasket on, install the CCT backed out all the way, thread it down (BY HAND) until it cant go any further, then back it off 1/4 turn.

Start up the bike, if the noise is still there slowly thread it in until the noise is gone.

If the noise is already gone, back it out until you hear the noise, then thread it back in until the noise is gone, then lock it with the lock-nut.
