new Drive Chain, now it's noisy??
I've read through to posts dating back to 2006, and have found a few references to the problem I'm having. The problem is as follows:
The old chain had a rhythmic buzz noise to it, that eventually resulted in the bike feeling like it was "lurching" in time with the sound. So it was tossed and a brand new shiny DID 530VA was installed. But now the new chain has a different noise. At first I thought that the noise was only at higher speeds, but after careful listening, I discovered that the sound is their at lower speeds, it's just a lot lower in volume and pitch. The sound, as best I can describe it, is a whine that increases in both pitch and volume as the speed increases. When I back off the throttle, or pull in the clutch, the sound *almost* disappears to where I can't be sure I hear it or not.
I've check and rechecked the chain tension and alignment, I even had the local shop where I purchased the chain look at it. Both the tension and alignment is spot on. The rear sprocket, according to the shop, looks just fine. I have not check the front sprocket yet, but that is the only item I have not checked.
Is this noise common? Is it part of a break in period? Could it be coming from the sprockets, even though they "look" good, but may have been worn to a shape that now causes the noise? Or, is the chain the wrong size?
