First just a quick hi. Bought myself a 1992 F2 this week as a first bike and absolutely loving it. I've been reading through this forum for tips and advice, you guys are really great and helpful.

The only problem I have with the bike is that once it's in gear I can't seem to get it into neutral again without stopping the engine. Changing gear normally is fine just moving into neutral doesn't happen while the engine is running once I've put it into first. I'm thinking it's the transmission rather than the clutch cable needs tightening. Any advice please?

 

How about going up from 1st? i have an issue with mine where she grinds with full clutch going from 2nd to N.. so most of the time going slower then 10mph imove to 1st then back up. if it was ur clutch u would feel the engine pulling/stalling when in first if it was not full disingaged from tranny. anybody else have an idea? i would think its shifter or possible take tranny apart. could be something jammed?

 

I had a bike once that wouldn't go into neutral unless I shut the bike off first. Simple solution. Changed the oil. The problem was that it had been sitting a long time and gas was leaking into the cylinders and past the rings so the oil smelled like it had gas in it. Changed the oil in it, then I adjusted the clutch and everything worked fine.
Might not be the solution in your case, but it doesn't cost very much and sure can't hurt.

 

Thanks the advice. Went out yesterday and gearing was fine for the first half, then had the neutral problem again. Doesn't go in from either second or first. Did find it went in if you reved upto 6k in first then slipped it in. Will try the oil change first since I can't vouch for when it last had one anyway.
